After being confused about testing contractors, I now have clarity. The clarity came by the way of testing the contractors again. Contractor A scored a 68 on the test. Contractor B scored an 80. This was the first time around. The second time on the test both contractors scored an 85. The final test both contractors scored in the high 80's again.
What caused this improvement in their scores? I believe it could have been two things. The first cause for improvement was an increase in their awareness and knowledge of the HUD guidelines. They both reviewed the HUD guidelines before taking the test again. However, more interesting was the fact that both contractors collaborated with each other and discused what questions they missed. The second cause for improvement I believe was competition. By taking this test together, the contractors were competeing againt each other and against themselves. They each shared their scores after the first and second test and the game was on.
Wow! Education through Teamwork and competition was created by taking this test. As you can see everyone wants a scorecard when it comes to their livelihood. Being able to measure what we know and who knows what can be a powerful tool for any business owner.
In the next article, we will find out how they actually perform in the field after taking the exam.
Yesterday's article from Reuters states "mortgage servicers are so ill-equipped to handle the deluge of defaults that they may be worsening the housing crisis and pushing the U.S. economy closer to recession."
"Tighter credit conditions and falling home values have also dried up the supply of new business for servicers.
"If they are not careful, servicers may be the next in line" to follow dozens of failed mortgage lenders, said Rick Smith, chief executive officer of Marix Servicing LLC in Phoenix, Arizona. "They are not getting more loans, but need twice as many people. How long can you operate at a negative cost of service?"
